These questions have been formulated to help you understand how our free house plans website works and how we do things differently than every other house plan website on the planet.

How do I find house plans?
On the left side menu you can simple click on the large blue button - Search. Or you can select some of the options to refine your search to more specific plan options and features.

Are your house plans really free?
Yes. When you order a plan, the pdf files options has a zero ($0.00) cost on it. There is a processing fee of $19.95 which is paid to the designer for their time to update the plans and put your name on them, check any updated local codes and email you the plan files.

What is included with your house plans?
Typically you will receive everything you need to build a house. Because these plans are drawn for local or national codes, there may be other requirements needed by your local township or city office to get a permit. Because we work with a number of different designers/architects, each one will supply plans according to their style and services. The designers on this site have or are already selling plans throughout the US. Please see the sample documents on the home page.

Sense the plans are free, can I resale them to a friend?
No. The plans are free and licensed to you only. If your friends would like to build the same house, they can get their own house plan printed in their name.

Can I gather ideas from any plan I want on the Free House Plans website?
Yes. In fact we encourage it. Please also ask questions in the forum so that you are thinking of everything there is to putting a house plan together. We are here to help you.

Can I gather ideas from the plans from the designers websites attached to this website?
No. Make sure to read the copyrights of ever other house plan website you visit. Typically you may not gather ideas. You should really not even be looking at other websites lest you unwillingly share ideas that are in your memory.

Do not gather ideas from other websites as this is a copyright infringement !

Do you offer plan modifications?
Yes. We do ask that you respect the work of the designer who drew the plans and work any modifications directly with them to help you. However, everyone on the free house plans website agree that you may have a local designer or builder who you like draw the plans for you.

Do you offer support for a free house plan?
Not directly. If you purchase a free house plan you are welcome to ask questions on the community network. If you wish to modify a plan, then additional charges will apply and support will be given by the designer you work with.

If I have a local designer draw plans from ideas gathered here, who's plan is it?
By law, the original designer owns the copyright to a plan. However, if you are using multiple ideas from multiple plans, we have agreed to allow this type of transaction to take place, (because we cannot stop it anyway.) However, if you are using the ideas primarily from one plan, we ask that you respectfully work with the designer who drew the plans and have them help you if at all possible.

The ideas are most likely shared by many and therefore make it impossible to know who the plan really belongs to. Tell your designer to join us here and share his or her expertise with the community.

How many plan sets can I order?
You can order as many plan sets as you need to build one (1) house. But we suggest that you save your money and send the pdf files to many of the sub-contractors who will be able to work from the small prints, or they can order and pay for a large set themselves.

How do I ask a question in the Forum?
On the forum is a link that says Sign Up. Fill out the form and click the Sign Up button on the bottom. Once you are signed in, click on the link on the top navigation that says Forum, then on the discussion that best fits your question or comment, or start a new discussion.
Please use a descriptive Subject like: Question about floor joist types vs I have a question. That way other people can find your post using the search option.
